Topic: Generational Poverty Theroist: Karl Marx Instructions: Explaining concepts; applying scholarly concepts in novel ways; critiquing theoretical arguments; organizing information in a clear way Task: write a 1500-2000 word research proposal (approx. 5-8 pages) in which you will develop a research question based on the theoretical insights of one of the theorists we are learning about. A research proposal outlines how a researcher would plan to explore a research topic of interest to them. Because theories provide a systematic framework for explaining and predicting the world, you will draw on the work of one of the theorists we are learning about in developing your research question.
Introduction: Briefly explain the research topic in which you are interested, and the theory that is best suited for exploring this topic. (approximately 1-3 paragraphs)
Literature review: Find at least three peer-reviewed sources that are relevant to your topic, and review their overall findings (approximately 2-5 paragraphs)
Research question: Based on the review of existing research on this topic, explain what question you would like to answer by conducting research on this topic (approximately 1 paragraph)
Theoretical orientation: Explain the theoretical lens that you will be using to examine this research question. Describe the theorist, their ideas, the concepts that are relevant to your research question, and what you would expect to find in your research, based on what this theorist says. (approximately 5-8 paragraphs)
Conclusion: Summarize your topic, how the theories you’ve chosen apply to that topic, and what your research question is (approximately 1-3 paragraphs)
