Assignment Overview This assignment requires you to write a research-based essay on Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” using both the novel and the film adaptation we watched in class as primary sources. Your essay should explore a specific aspect of the novel, its adaptation, or a comparison of both, supported by analysis and interpretation drawn from a minimum of five credible academic secondary sources.
Essay Topic Aestheticism and Morality: Explore the relationship between aestheticism and morality in the novel. How does Wilde portray the aesthetic movement’s influence on Victorian society and individual morality?
Essay Requirements Length: The essay should be 1500 words long (excluding works cited page), double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font. Format: Follow MLA style for formatting, in-text citations, and the works cited page.
Sources: A minimum of five academic secondary sources is required. These may include peer-reviewed journal articles, scholarly books, and credible academic websites. Primary sources (the novel and film) should be used to support your argument but do not count towards the five-source minimum.
Thesis Statement: Your essay must have a clear, concise thesis statement that presents your argument. Organization: Structure your essay with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.
