What are the main themes of Rabindranath Tagore’s play, The Post Office? Choose the theme that is most relevant to you?ØFor
your final essay, you will choose a topic from the list below and analyze it
based on what we read and discussed in class. You will also find two outside sources that will help you
frame your argument. You will also be doing research to locate secondary
sources in order to position your own argument in relation to arguments made by
critics who are working with the text(s) and most directly with the issue(s)
that you are taking up in your essay.
The secondary sources you find should be thought of as an aid; it is
your argument that should make up most of the essay, and the ideas and
arguments of other scholars should serve as supporting evidence that you
examine (e.g., whether another critic’s idea/argument supports you own, or if
it offers a counter-claim to your own that you will respond to) along with the
evidence that you examine from the memoir which is our primary text. The purpose of this essay assignment is to develop a
solid and valid interpretation about our course texts, and to locate your argument
in relation to other critics’ arguments. The essay should be within 800-1000 words. Use Times New Roman fonts, double spaced,
with proper MLA in-text citations and documentation, and include a Works Cited
page at the end. You should also consider going to the ASC lab and peer
reviewing your essay before submission. This is not just for pure editing
purposes, but to give you a taste of how real life publication process happens.
