Informative speeches can define, clarify, explain, or classify.
When you give an informative speech, remember the following:
• Act as a reporter; do not judge.
• Use personal experience as examples only; the speech is NOT about you.
• Be thorough and clear; define terms the audience may not know.
• Transition between ideas and structural portions of the speech.
• Limit the topic so that you can expand the ideas. NO laundry lists.
• Deliver the speech extemporaneously.
Topic
Note: No two students may give a speech on the same topic. Students may declare their topic via Canvas messages board or email to me. The first student to select the topic will be permitted to speak on that topic. You want to keep this in mind because you may need a second or third choice for a topic.
