The 8thAmendment to our Constitution specifically outlaws cruel and unusual punishment. Cruel and unusual punishment is a phrase in common law describingpunishment that is considered unacceptable due to the suffering, pain, or humiliation it inflicts on the person subjected to the sanction. For this writing assignment you will do a paper on what you have found in research of cruel and unusual punishment. Why is it a part of our Constitution? Is this still a legal issue for corrections in the courts? You are not limited to these questions. Use your imagination. Based on this, the paper must be typed, double space, 12 pt. font and 1 inch margins. The paper must include a cover page and reference page. These 2 pages DO NOT count in the total number of pages required. You will be required to provide a minimum of 3 relevant references. You must use an in text citation for both and have them properly formatted on your reference page. The paper will be graded primarily based on the technical quality of the student’s writing. Grammar, syntax, usage, spelling, and composition will be weighted substantially. Demonstrated understanding of the subject matter and clarity of expression will also be considered.
