The development of new drugs and treatments is rapidly
advancing. In 2019 there were 48 novel drug approvals https://www.fda.gov/drugs/new-drugs-fda-cders-new-molecular-entities-and-new-therapeutic-biological-products/novel-drug-approvals-2019 (Links to an external
site.) and hundreds of drug alerts and safety
communications.
Did you know about the recommendation to discontinue SGLT2
medications prior to surgery (link in weekly content)? As a provider how
will you stay up to date with the continuous changes? Considering the
cardiovascular risk reduction indications for SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP1
agonists have been fairly recent how would you know of these beneficial medications
and how would you identify patients and communicate the benefits of adding this
therapy?
