For this paper, you will watch a high-level university meeting and write a paper that critically examines it for content, participants, and processes. If this were a traditional course, I would ask you to attend a meeting rather than watching a video. However, since this is a summer online course, I substituted watching a video instead of attending a meeting. These meetings can last anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours plus. Select one that interests you.
Search YouTube for a video to watch of a high-level university meeting. You will select a meeting or event from the following list to view as an observer:
Board of Regents Meetings University Faculty Senate
University Board of Trustees Meeting
You will complete a synopsis and critical analysis of the observed meeting (1250 word minimum / 1500 word maximum). While watching the video, you should take detailed notes and submit them as an appendix of your final paper (not part of the word count). Include the link to the video in your notes appendix.
The synopsis must provide an overview of the meeting/event (i.e., describe the purpose, context, and participants) and the analysis should relate your observations to the principles, theories, and/or empirical research from our textbook and other scholarly resources.
In this paper, you should:
Present well-defined articulation of the issues addressed.
Identify the appropriate stakeholders in higher education administration.
Define the relationship between issues in higher education administration and their relationships to stakeholders.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the demands and challenges facing higher education administrators.
Exhibit an awareness of the relevance of decision-making and problem solving strategies in higher education institutions
Utilize current research involving the ideological, technical and operational issues of higher education administration relative to the issues addressed.
Synthesize current research literature relevant to the topics addressed, and utilize this synthesis in the development of your own leadership platform in relation to best practices.
Articulate professional perspectives on the demands and challenges facing higher education administrators.
Evaluate potential solutions to educational problems.
Use a minimum of six scholarly sources.
Include your notes from the meeting and link to the video as an appendix (not part of the word count).
