Literary Analysis Essay 1

Short Story Analysis Assignment:
Short story elements include
(plot/structure, setting, characterization, point of view, symbolism, tone, style, irony).
You’ll have to write a short analysis for one of the selected stories (your choice) that considers these elements (also your choice). While the specifics you will discuss are open, you must analyze a specific literary element as it works in that story—not only how it develops in the text, but, more importantly, what effect it has on the work as a whole.
You’ll want a brief introduction that ends with your thesis statement. The body paragraphs are the most important—how well do you analyze the emphasized element? Remember to stay focused on the element(s) and your selected text. End your analysis with a clear conclusion.
Draft 1 (grading is determined by effort, page requirement, directions followed, and deadline). Think of this draft as a check+, check, or check- rubric/grading.
Requirements: 2 pages, double spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt font. This is our “Shitty First Draft” where we will be exploring (through this draft) the deeper meaning of our text. This stage is meant to feel loose, uncentered, and maybe even messy. Our workshops and continued class discussions, exercises, and learning will ground us in a better understanding of what we want to say/focus on more directly for draft 2.

Choose whatever story you want that seems interesting.
