Summary:
Reading summaries are to be one to two paragraph responses to the readings on what caught your attention and any questions that you might have in response to the readings. As you read, use the week questions to further guide:
“Resolution, Management or Transformation? What are some of the distinguishing characteristics of conflict transformation and peacebuilding as responses to conflict? What condition does shifting our thinking make?”
The paragraphs need to demonstrate both thoughtful analysis of the course materials and include your thoughts on at least 2 of the following areas of influence:
· Historical Influence – How does the material, readings, and dialogue interact with what you have been taught in the past? What about your historical social location agrees/disagrees with this week’s material?
· Current Influence – In what ways does the material, readings, and dialogue impact you in the social context of being a student at LCC?
· Future Influence – How do you see this week’s material informing who you are becoming?
· Current Events – What in our materials, readings, and dialogues impact local, national, and international current events of the week? (Pick two current events.)
The summaries will be graded as a 5/5, 4/5, 3/5, and 0/5. 0/5 means nothing is submitted. Normally a grade of 4/5 will be awarded for a submission. To achieve 5/5, exceptional insight, critical thinking, and/or creativity must be demonstrated. A 3/5 means that there is inadequate thought or that it is clear you did not fully read materials assigned that are referred to. Note that these entries will be useful to you in guiding your final exam River of Life Project.
