The author and was not surprised
to learn he is NOT a licensed Attorney, nor has he ever attended law school or received a Paralegal
Certificate. He is a tech blogger, so his article is written from that perspective. What this author fails to
consider is the Professional Responsibility and Ethical issues that arise from the use of Google Docs and G Suite. This is not a Professional Responsibility class, so I don’t expect you to do a deep dive into how
this is a violation of the Model Rules of Ethics.
Please take a look at the article and consider the difference between using Microsoft Office and Google
Docs/G Suite from the viewpoint of document security. Who really has control over those documents?
Do you think there is a risk of the documents being exposed to 3rd party and there being a breach of confidentiality? If Google was issued a subpoena for this attorney’s documents, do you think Google has
the capability (different from permission) to turn those documents over to the court?
What are your personal opinions about whether or not a firm should be using Microsoft Office or whether
they need to switch to G Suite? Would you recommend that to a firm you were working for?
