Discussion 1.
Write a discussion post making connections between the Chomsky reading and interview, the Zinn reading and one of the essay themes. Please do not miss the spectacular introduction of Chomsky. Perchance you will understand why he is such an important figure in our class and in the world. His speech on worldwide hunger (mostly people of color) and the brutal domination of the world markets by “our” capitalist power elite clearly lays out how race can be utilized to downplay concern for human rights and human values around the world and particularly on the domestic front.

Write a discussion response analyzing if we live in a tyranny in the United States today and how that might be supported in the reading. What would Chomsky say about that? Of course, you will need to know what a tyranny is to make the assessment. Look it up in the dictionary (and include your definition in your post if you choose) bring in questions from the reading.

Write a discussion response developing what the two Chomsky readings have to do with tyranny (Zinn) and connecting to an essay theme. Focus your post primarily on the Chomsky readings. Use quotations from the readings to support your points.

Write a word discussion response making connections between the conquest and genocide of the Native Americans, colonialism, human progress and the number 3 essay theme on colonialism and neocolonialism. You cannot get a clearer explanation of old style European colonialism versus the new American neocolonialism than from how Zinn explains the difference in his video. WHAT IS NEOCOLONIALISM? Be sure to bring that out in your response.
What role does manifest destiny and “Providence” (Zinn video) play in these forces, and how does this religious ideology continue to this day? Where do you see it in evidence now? How do we reconcile the principle of the “separation of church and state” into the role that Providence plays in the 21st century political landscape?
