How People Learn

Topic:
Choose an educational setting in which you currently work (e.g., a tutor, camp counselor in the summer, etc.) or in which you expect to work in the future (e.g., corporate trainer, classroom teacher, coach). Using the concepts from class, integrate how you would promote learning in this setting using different learning theories, and analyze this educational setting in terms of what you have learned, what is effective in students’ learning, and propose ways you could improve this setting in terms of fostering learning.
The purpose of the application paper is to give you an opportunity to apply the ideas you are learning about to real education settings. Use a selection of class readings as resources for this paper and be sure to properly cite them.
The main criteria for evaluating your paper will be:
— To what extent have you used multiple concepts and principles about learning that we have read about in the course?
— To what extent have you provided a clear and detailed analysis of the setting you have chosen using these concepts and principles?
— To what extent have you used the ideas and applied them appropriately to improve your own or others’ learning?
Paper length should be a minimum of 4 full pages to 6 pages (excluding the reference page), double spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman.
The paper should be in APA style. (This link has a brief tutorial on APA style.) The paper should include the proper use of citations, as well as proper spelling and grammar.
Proper APA citation of a reference is very important to avoid plagiarism. Some examples are: (Brown, 1995). If you are providing a direct quote, a page number needs to be included in the parenthesis, (e.g., O’Donnell, Reeve, & Smith, 2009, p. 212). Remember any information that you directly quote, or paraphrase needs to be cited, and if you are citing someone else’s work that from the textbook: (e.g., Brown, 1995, p. 729, as cited in O’Donnell, Reeve, & Smith, 2009). Please proofread your work to be sure your paper reflects what you intended to say.
