For this Discussion Board, please complete the following:
General strain theory was proposed by Robert Agnew. He proposed that strain does not arise when people fail to achieve the American dream, but that everyone, in every social class, has frustrations in their daily lives.
Most strain theorists list failure to achieve goals as a major strain precipitator. Agnew identified two additional sources of strain— presentation of noxious stimuli and removal of positively valued stimuli. Examples of presentation of noxious stimuli would be the following:
Abusive parent
Overly critical instructor
Overly demanding employer|
Examples of the removal of positively valued stimuli would be the following:
Losing a job
Getting a divorce
Filing for bankruptcy

Using what you have learned in your reading and supporting materials this week, create a scenario that would fall under Agnew’s strain theory. Use 1 of the following inputs as the basis for your scenario:
Loss of the major goal
Presentation of the noxious stimuli
Removal of the positively valued stimuli
Briefly describe your chosen scenario and address the following:
How do you believe a person in your scenario would react?
How do you believe society would react to the person’s behavior?
What steps would you take to help prevent the person from partaking in criminal behavior?
