Plain Language final version

Begin writing your final paper right away; don’t wait for instructor outline feedback. Once you receive feedback comments, incorporate those into your work as well. Your paper should be at least three pages in length (1” margins, double-spaced, 12-point font). Rather than a cover page (and abstract), your submission must contain a letter to your representative that will present and summarize your paper. Do not put a lot of detail in the letter — you want the letter to merely introduce the paper (remember, in this scenario, they asked you to write the paper), with the paper containing the details of your research. You should select a specific representative to whom your letter will be addressed.

Visit this Kansas University Community Tool Box webpage (http://ctb.ku.edu/en/table-of-contents/advocacy/direct-action/letters-to-elected-officials/main) for some tips on how to ‘open the letter in an official manner.’

Include your introductory letter as the first page in your paper file; it does not need to be a separate file.

In addition to your letter, your paper should contain:
An introductory paragraph that offers general background information and establishes the issues that your paper will address and how the paper will address those issues, which includes your thesis statement.
A paper body that addresses the points (and sub-points) listed in your outline, along with specific in-text citations.
A summative conclusion.
Your paper must be written in APA format, although, as noted above, your letter will stand in place of the title page (and abstract).
