The “Picture This” vignette at the beginning of this chapter highlights the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Use the Internet to find information on the “Lewis and Clark Expedition” (National Geographic has a myriad of resources). How could you integrate the 4 areas of social studies identified in the state standards (civics/government, history, geography, and economics) in a short unit about Lewis and Clark and their “Corps of Discovery”? (Pronounced “core”, like the Peace Corps or the Marine Corps). Your Chapter 4 project will integrate the four areas of social studies identified in the state standards (civics/government, history, geography, and economics) into a lesson about Lewis and Clark. This would probably be most appropriate in a 4th or 5th grade classroom.
Create an outline (using your name and grade as the title) in MS Word that uses the four state social studies areas as Roman Numeral I,II, III & IV. You will need a complete sentence that describes two activities for each area that will be labeled A & B under each area (the aforementioned roman numerals). You will add detail in the form of a phrase for numerals 1 & 2. Two possible web addresses will be your final entry of each section as lower case a & b on the outline.
Remember: every A must have a B, every 1 must have a 2, every a must have a b. So you will have 4 Roman Numerals, 16 different activities, and 32 websites.
