Additional Mid Term Exam Midterm and final exams: The midterm paper typically consist of one broad essay question with two or three parts. The length will normally be 12 full double-spaced pages of content (e.g., introduction, main body, and conclusion). The separate cover page and Reference page do not count toward the required length of the paper. Since the exam is an academic essay, the discussion question will not be repeated in the heading as you will in the weekly discussions. Although not normally an element of an academic essay, for the midterm and final exams you will be required to provide a copy of the outline you used to develop your paper on a separate page following the References page. [Note: If the requirement is 12 pages of content and you submit only 9 pages, then you will start with a grade of 75 (9/12 = 75%) and work down from there. If the exam has three elements and you only address two in your essay, then you will start with a grade of 66 (2/3 = 66%) and work down from there.] You will usually be provided 7 days (Monday – Sunday) to complete each exam. Students who keep up with their readings during the week should be able to complete the exam over two or three days (a total of 8 hours of research and writing may be required to write a quality essay). For most students, it is helpful to spend some time on one day researching and taking notes. A second block of time on another day should be reserved for writing. When possible, time on a third day should be reserved for rereading and editing your essay. If coordinated in advance, an alternate exam can be administered for students with military duty or other work/family situations.
This professor requires APA 7th edition formatting with three (3) elements for citations, whether summarizing, paraphrasing, direct quoting, or short quotes. Following the normal APA guidelines for writing, but where needed include all three elements for citation.
