Potential for Emerging Technology-Based Improvement and Innovation to Improve a Global Organization’s Competitive Advantage
Weeks 1 and 2 consisted of conducting internal and external analyses that may be used to identify possibilities of how the selected organization may ultimately improve in an effort to enhance its competitive advantage.
Existing technologies and emerging technologies are utilized at varying levels across industry sectors. Regardless of the industry sector, however; potential technological improvements may result in significant revenue generation or cost savings.
Organizations often consciously determine how they adopt the technology. A sociological model has been developed that describes the stages of technological adoption. The technology adoption lifecycle determined that individuals adopt, or accept, new technologies at different points on the technological bell curve. These different points are innovators, early adopters, early majority, late majority, and laggards (Figure 1).
Innovators are the first to adopt new technology. Representing 2.5% of the population, this group is willing to accept a higher level of risk the new technology may not work as planned.

Early adopters represent 13.5% of the population. This group is still accepting of risk, albeit at a slightly lower level than the innovator group. Early adopters recognize the potential of the new technology and are willing to accept the technology may not be complete.
The group found in the early majority category are among those who are willing to adopt the new technology just before the average member of the population. This group, representing 34% of the population, rely more on facts and data than those represented in the innovator or early adopter groups. In pursuit of a relatively safe purchase, this group is seeking to see gains in organizational efficiency.
The late majority category, representing 34% of the population, tend to be more skeptical of the new technology compared to the earlier adopter groups. This group takes a cautious approach to the adoption of new technology and often adopts new technology due to economic necessity or some kind of social pressure. This group often adopts new technology because their competitors have already begun the adoption process or is maturing in that process.
The laggard group is the last group to adopt the new technology. Often critical of the new technology, this group holds onto legacy systems until the old system is no longer viable. It is possible laggards implement the new technology when even newer technology is becoming available and is being adopted by innovators.
To complement the technology adoption lifecycle, another theory exists that describes how users adopt new technology. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) uses two key factors in determining an individual’s use of new technology. The TAM factors include perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness (Figure 2).
These models serve as indicators as to the willingness to adopt new technology. This willingness may then be used to identify what technologies may be adopted by an organization to improve efficiencies or gain market share.

You will continue using the organization from Weeks 1 and 2 to identify and describe how that organization may strategically grow through the use of technology-based improvement. You should expressly state how the technology-based improvement will aid the organization in maintaining a strategic innovative advantage over competitors. You will identify multiple potential technology-based solutions and recommend one of the potential solutions for implementation.
Be sure your report addresses the following:
Identifies and describes the organization.
Describes the current level of innovativeness within the company.
Identifies and briefly describes three potential organizational improvements made possible by technology.
Selects one of the improvements and details how the organization will strategically benefit if the improvement is implemented.
Identifies and describes at least five possible technology-based solutions to aid in improvement implementation.
Identifies and describes at least two global emerging technologies that may complement the project.
Selects one of the potential solutions for implementation and explains this particular selection compared to the other possible solutions.
Describes how emerging technologies may affect the project implementation in 2 to 5 years.
Length: 5 to 7-page report, not including the title page or reference page
References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly resources.
The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course.
