Watch the TedTalk by Dixon Chibanda “Why I Train Grandmothers to Treat Depression” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cprp_EjVtwA) which gives a great example of how a mental health professional is addressing some of the socioeconomic conditions (i.e. transportation, money, living conditions, etc.) in Zimbabwe that are impacting the treatment of depression, then write a response addressing the following questions and adding in your own thoughts:
What are some of those socioeconomic factors in this case? Do you think any of these issues exist in the US and if so, explain how they impact people in our own community? Describe Dr. Chibanda’s health education program. How does he address the treatment of depression in Zimbabwe? How do these techniques differ or relate to the information in chapter 2 of your readings this week?
