Read the Describing
and Analyzing Art document
attached to this module and watch the Khan Academy video about Formal Analysis.
Use them as a guide to describe these elements of art: lines, shapes, colors,
use of light, space (what kind of space is presented?). Do any of these
elements highlight any particular area of the painting? Formal analysis is not
an exploration of the theme presented. So you should not be attempting to
describe what the story being told might be. You should confine yourself to the
elements listed above. Try to use creative and descriptive terms that you have
been learning in the chapter modules.
