Week 5 Topics: Variability of behavior in different situations and
Psychoanalytic Perspective

Students are required to post their initial response to the weekly discussion questions by October 7th by 11:59 p.m. Students must then respond to at least two other students posts no later than October 11th by 11:59 p.m.
Each student must have three posts (1 initial response and 2 comments to other students’ posts) for EACH weekly discussion question. Each posting should be at least 5 sentences long. There are usually two discussion questions per week located under each other. You must click on the title of the second discussion to enter the class discussion.
Discussion postings should be well thought out and reflect an understanding of concepts found in the week’s readings as they apply to the question asked.
The more each of you read and respond to classmates’ postings, the more the discussion is like an in-class, face-to-face discussion. In this way, we can learn what other’s perspectives and understanding about psychological concepts as it’s relates to everyday life.

Tonya demonstrates personality traits at parties with her friends that are very different from those she exhibits when she participates in class activities. Using your knowledge of both the person-situation controversy and reciprocal determinism, explain why the variability of Tonya’s behavior in different situations is not surprising.
