Marine Biology – Final Project

For the final project you will use Adobe Spark Page (the same tool you used in the first week of the course in the student introductions). In the final project you will need to use text, video (your own or pulled from the internet), and images (your own or pulled from the internet) to answer the following questions:
How is the ocean personal to you?
How do your day-to-day activities have an impact on the ocean?
How does the ocean have an impact on you each day?
What is one behavior that you have changed as a result of taking this course and why?
You will need to reference the content that you learn in this course to answer these questions. (You do not have to cite anything but mentioning a name or video title is helpful. Mostly just assure that you are answering the questions with material that you learned) You can google “Z Library” and find “The sixth extinction – an un natural history” by Elizabeth Kolbert. That will utilize the best source of information from chapter 1 to 6. I will also upload some Ted Talk videos.

Here are some examples of student reports (some from this course, some on other topics) created in Adobe Spark Page to help inspire you:

You are certainly welcome to use your own photographs (some of my own photographs will be uploaded and MAY be used but do not have to be), but if you need help finding images in the public domain, try these sources:

Mileposts and Timeline
During Week 5: ( 9/27 – 10/3)
Start to brainstorm ideas for your Adobe Spark Page: gather images and videos, start to write the text, think of how you will tell your story.
By the end of Week 6: (10/4 – 10/10)
Share a draft of your multi-media presentation with a small group of 3 other students (these groups are automatically set up. You can see your group by clicking on the Groups tab at the top of this D2L course site). You will share your project using the Final Project Peer Review discussion board.
Review one of your group member’s presentation using the rubric. Work together in your small groups to ensure that every student’s project is reviewed.
By the end of Week 7: (10/11 – 10/13)
Post your peer review to the Final Project Peer Review discussion board.
By the end of the course:
Use the feedback you received from your classmate to revise your final project.
Post a link to your Adobe Spark Page in the Final Project discussion board.
Optional but encouraged: View some of your classmate’s work!
Grading and Rubrics
There is a recommended minimum word count of 200 words for this project. Videos should be no longer than 3 minutes and you should include no more than 2 videos. You should include multiple images to tell your story, but there is not set minimum or maximum.
Peer Review Grade (worth 2.5% of final grade*)
You will receive a grade from a fellow student using the Peer Review Rubric. Your peer will grade you on:
Meeting minimum project requirements (Using Adobe Spark, meeting word count requirements, making the deadline, etc.)
Content
Multimedia Use
*Note: 2.5% of your final grade is based on you conducting the peer review by the deadline, your peer’s review of your work does not contribute to your final grade.
Final Project Grade (worth 12.5% of final grade)
The final project will be graded using the Final Project Rubric, which is broken down into:
Content
Effort
Originality
Appearance and Use of Multimedia
Mechanics (grammar and spelling)
