Choose any one of the six countries covered below by the LSE IDEAS country reports. Read the overview on the country from the BBC overview below along with the LSE IDEAS report on that country. Answer one or two of the following questions:
1. Which of the explanations discussed in your textbooks and lecture notes best explain the protests in this country?
2. How? Apply the theoretical explanations for political violence/protests discussed in class lecture notes and textbook and please cite these appropriately, explaining why the explanation(s) you have chosen best help us understand the event you highlighted.
3. How did the government of your chosen country case respond to the protests? Was their adopted strategy successful in quelling the protests?
4. What should the government of the country do to avoid future protests?
5. Do the conditions leading to regime transitions, discussed in your textbook or in Gerardo Munck’s review article, apply to your chosen case?
6. Was the regime transition successful? Explain how the new regime (think about democracies and dictatorships) differs from the previous one.
