the movements that helped abolish slavery, the events that led to the Civil War, and what was achieved after.

a seven page essay that is due on Monday. It is for a US history course and certain expectations must be met that I can provide.

What was the most important movement or idea/ideology/philosophy of the early American experience (1620-1865)? What made it so and why do you think it was so important?
Note from Professor to class as follows:
The final essay is due one week from next Monday.
Please read, or re-read the material I posted on writing essays, writing history, developing a thesis, and Grad thesis essentials. As this essay relatively short, and the topic defined, the latter two items do not completely apply but have some good pointers.
Use a spell check.
Review your final draft :(a.) Do not use personal pronounces (b) avoid colloquial or common expressions- invariably they will be imprecise (c) when you write ‘someone stated’ a citation is needed. (d) numbers are to be written out.(e) please avoid the worid ‘inevitable’- except for the Word of God or related to the Word of God,few things in history are inevitable. (e) check your language, are you using the best precise words, or do you need to qualify the language ? A Thesaurus can be a great help.
I welcome a diversity of opinions including those I may disagree with – however this is a history class : hence opinions ideally should be based on logic and also evidence- this in particular applies to broad generalizations.
Sources can be derived from your textbook, the OCU library,or academic databases such as JSTOR (JSTOR does have a free student account. Please no sources such as Wikipedia, Reddit, Quora, History.com, Khan Academy, mainstream media. Encyclopedias are helpful but generally should not be cited as sources.
Be careful not to plagiarize from sources, or using websites that supply ‘canned essays’. If you have any questions let me know.

The final essay will be graded for both the solidity of argument, as well as evidence of historical knowledge. Essays require students to take historical information and organize it in such a way as to provide a measure of meaning to the actions and thoughts of people. – This is some more info left by the Professor.
