Compare and contrast Gilgamesh, Achilles, and Odysseus. What is “mythic” about them?

Discuss with the class here in the forum the concept of heroism, both modern and ancient, but especially ancient. Consider any or all of the following:
What makes a hero a hero? How does that differ over time and from culture to culture?
Compare and contrast Gilgamesh, Achilles, and Odysseus. What is “mythic” about them?
What do ancient Mesopotamian and Greek hero epics have in common?
Can you explain the dominance of male figures?
What do these tales have to say about those civilizations’ view of humanity’s relationship to the gods or to God?
What do they say about mortality and immortality? About life?
