Research Paper
The purpose of the research paper assignments is to allow the students to conduct independent research regarding the field of IT. The ability to conduct independent research, to distinguish between authoritative versus editorial opinions and sources, and to form one’s opinions based upon objective understanding of facts are key to successful lifelong learning and are important to ethical decision making and critical thinking in business. The assignments of these particular research paper topics are the opportunities for students to demonstrate strong skills gained as a result of their study throughout the business curriculum. The topics to be studied have been chosen in advance by the instructor. These topics must be understood by the successful IT executive as IT is critical to the company for gaining, and maintaining, a strategic advantage within the competitive environment. The topics (and questions to be considered within each) are below. This grade will include assessments of the quality of research, writing, and discussion.
Please feel free to contact the DBU Writing Center located in the basement of the Learning Center for assistance with the research papers should it be necessary. These papers must be written using APA manuscript style. While the length of these papers will not be specifically set, it is expected that each paper will include a minimum of 10 sources; 5 must be original and 5 sources may be taken from those provided for you in the respective session.
The topic of this paper must be related to the text material. Examples might be professional codes of ethics, the ethical or unethical use of information technology in project management, intellectual property issues, security issues regarding information technology, etc. Most of the research should be done on the Internet, although books and printed journals may also be used.
