Academic Essay #1: Categorization/Division
Instructions:
1. Students must follow the due dates for drafting in the schedule outlined below and all parts of the assignment and drafts must be complete in the student’s personal Google Drive folder or Group folder as instructed.
2. Students MUST read and use the assigned texts (provided below) for each essay question – students may not find their own texts on the internet.
3. Students must follow the research, note taking, and drafting instructions given each day on PowerPoint and modeled/explained in class.
4. If drafts are not complete on the scheduled date, 30% will be deducted from the essay’s final grade.
5. Students are required to integrate at least TWO SOURCES IN EACH OF THE ESSAY’s BODY
PARAGRAPHS using correct APA style quotations and paraphrases where appropriate.
6. Each student must turn in an individual essay – this is not a group project. However, you can help each other revise and give suggestions as a group.
Essay and Text Guidelines
The essay must follow the following conventions:
1. At least five paragraphs (500 – 550 words)
2. APA style (7th edition) formatting, citations, and references
3. Times New Roman, 12-point font
4. Double Spaced
5. Page numbers
6. One-inch margins
7. Follow the APA style conventions used in Dr. Hall’s model APA essay #1
Integrating Sources
1. Students are required to use TWO of the sources provided
2. Students are required to integrate at least two sources per body paragraph using correct APA style quotations, paraphrases, and summaries where appropriate.
Submission of Course Work Assignments – Turnitin (LMS)
Coursework assignments must be submitted in three parts:
i.research notes (Individual and Groups) Must be complete in Group Google Drive folders
ii.essay plan and draft(s) (Individual and Group) Must be complete in Group Google Drive folders
iii.essay (Individual) Must be submitted to LMS Turn-it-In and Google Drive Individual folder
Your essay must be submitted to Turnitin through the Learning Management System (LMS).
Research and Essay Questions – Two Topics and Audiences – CHOOSE ONE TOPIC/QUESTION
1. Classification/Categorization – Movie Types
Essay Context: You work for AMC or VOX theaters in Riyadh. Your boss asks you to write a description of the three or four main film genres (types) that young Saudi Audiences should know about. You categorize the three or four main genres (types) of films, defining and providing one or two examples of each kind for your young Saudi audience. The purpose of this essay is to educate/inform your audience.
Essay Question: What are the three or four major movie genres (types) young Saudi movie goers should know about?
