The topic of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) with Peripartum Onset (also known as postpartum depression) is very important because as the speaker in the video below had noted “you either know someone that is a mother, have a mother yourself or will know a mother in your lifetime.” The transition to motherhood is not always a smooth process. As noted in chapter 7, Peripartum Onset, is one of the most common complications of childbirth, yet it is one that is not talked about a lot. It is crucial that we cover this in our course, and help you learn more about it so that you can identify it when needed.
