We know that tectonic plates exist and that they move. What is plate tectonic theory and why is it a theory? Think about how we use the word theory in day to day life and on television. For example: If a reporter says that she has a theory as to why politicians often lie, or someone at a party says they have a theory as to why their boss is a jerk. Is this a theory? If not, what is it? When Jamie says that he his theory is that the car will not fly for a mile when it hits a bump, is this a theory? If not what is it? How does the misuse of the word “theory” in daily life affect how the public views scientific theories? How do words affect how we think and act? For example, the use of the word “girl” vs “woman”. There are many other examples. Feel free to discuss one. Use a creative title for your subject line. Please post your original response by Wednesday and monitor the responses to your question.
