can be studied as identified by the text in chapter two. Then, note one
perspective not identified in the text from which you can study
religion. Conclude whether using multiple perspectives to study the same
religion is a good or bad method.
3. Reflect
on the need for belonging that religion answers. Comment on
why religion appears to attempt to answer this in every culture, even if the
specifics of such an answer are different.
4. Briefly
define the four general positions regarding religious truth claims that were
highlighted in class. Spend the majority of the essay identifying your own
position and explaining why you hold it.
5. Reflect
upon the transmission of sacred texts. Reflect on how oral tradition affects
the final version of a religious text. Is this a good or a bad thing?

6. Briefly
summarize the three classic methods of ethical decisions making outlined in the
text. Endorse one as being primarily useful.
7. Is
religion inherently violent? Answer yes or no and offer evidence.
