For your Signature Assignment, read one of the interviews under “Voices of Media Literacy” at the Center for Media Literacy (CML) (http://www.medialit.org/voices-media-literacy-international-pioneers- speak). Here is an overview of what these video interviews are all about:
Voices of Media Literacy is a collection of interviews that were conducted in 2010-2011 with 20+ media literacy pioneers who were active in the field prior to 1990. These pioneers represent the English- speaking countries of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the United States. Their views not only shed light on the development of media literacy, but also on where they see the field evolving and their hopes for the future. (Center for Media Literacy, 2016)
After you have reviewed the interview transcript for your selected media literacy pioneer, write a 3-4 page (double-spaced) essay, which addresses the following:
1. Introduce us to your media literacy pioneer, including his/her background and education.
2. Why and how did your pioneer get involved in media literacy efforts?
3. Briefly explain if the pioneer you selected influenced one or more of the following areas:
a. Politics and media literacy
b. Advertising and media literacy
c. False messages and media literacy
4. Explain how your media literacy pioneer saw the future of media literacy evolving. Do you believe your pioneer influenced the current field of media literacy?
5. After your conclusion, write 3 or 4 sentences about how have your views on media literacy changed or evolved by taking this course.
Writing Guidelines:
Make sure you cite your source(s) used from all external background material (Please review the links to assist with writing your Signature assignment found in the readings tab for module 8). Plagiarism is easy to do even when you are not trying to do it so make sure you give credit where it is due. Include a title page for your assignment and bibliography, which are not a part of the total 3-4 page paper (this should align with the references you cite in the paper)
Make sure you have an introduction (with a good purpose statement), main points and a conclusion (summarizes in a brief manner what you wrote about.
