In an argumentative essay the writer typically chooses a controversy or debatable topic, and then evaluates evidence and argues in favor of a particular point of view. (In this assignment you will evaluate evidence for both sides of a controversy/debate and ultimately argue in favor of one side.) Although explanation of some concepts may be necessary, the focus is not on explanation as would be the case with an expository essay. Also, argumentative essays incorporate the writers views and opinions with facts, whereas expository essays are limited to facts.
