What does the literature imply with regard to the idea that episodic memory is unique to human beings?

Subject: My course has a psychology designation but it leans more towards behavioural neuroscience and biology.

Instructions: The paper should address the following items: a. Desсrіption of the subject or question (1 point). b. Relevance to the weekly topic (1 point). c. Desсrіption of relevant background information and state of knowledge, and discussion of current research efforts, ongoing questions (2 points) e. Conclusions regarding the importance of the information, new information that needs to be acquired, and the relevance or importance to the broader topic. (2 points).

The professor also provided this brief desсrіption of the topic:
Hippocampal theta band activity plays essential roles in episodic memory as well as in the production of goal directed behavior. However, the functions of the theta oscillations are still unclear. Research suggests that each theta cycle represents a “fundamental unit of information within an episodic memory” and provides a means coordinating neuronal ensembles representing distinct memories. One idea is that theta is a “carrier wave” whose function is to indicate the presence of information within the wave, and to synchronize activity with the target neurons.

Recent findings also show that theta is not required for the formation of place fields in the hippocampus, but is necessary for organizing neural activity representing sequential changes during exploration. Such activity might underlie the formation of an episode. Whereas the functional role of hippocampal theta can be studied in relation to overt activity, memory formation, and recall in other animals, what does the literature imply with regard to the idea that episodic memory is unique to human beings?
