1. What do the voices of the oppressed tell you about the hardships they experience? Can you identify individual, institutional, and societal factors that affect the psychological and physical well being as well as the standards of living of marginalized groups?
2. Using the tripartite framework, (pg.16) in what ways are you unique, what cultural characteristics do you share with only certain groups, and what similarities do you share with everyone?
3. Review the NASW cultural competence and chapter 3 in your book. First explain what is your worldview. How may this help or hinder you in your professional work? Have you ever discussed your worldview with any colleagues, classmates, or friends? If so how did your worldview differ from their worldview. If you have not had the discussion, how would you describe your worldview to someone else.
4. How can you apply the multidimensional model of cultural competence to your future practice. With in the model is the dimension of awareness knowledge and skills, how might you develop these areas?
5. Describe the 5 models of oppression that were in the reading on oppression and resilience.
6. Define privilege and after watching Tammy’s story on the link in canvas, how was she oppressed and marginlized? Is she privileged? Does she have resilience?
7. Watch the tedtalk by Tiffany Jana, please describe what you learned about privilege from her life story.
