Political observers have long questioned whether
politics should serve the values of justice or the values of liberty or the
values of order or some other determinant end.
Furthermore, philosophers have pondered just exactly what is meant by
justice, liberty, and order. For example,
is a just decision one that is made
in the interest of the few, the many, or all?
And, lastly, practitioners of politics have long debated who should make
political decisions for a society.
Should one person make such all-determinant decisions, or a few, or the
many, or all? First, provide your
opinion of what goal(s) politics should serve.
Make sure to define your terms; for example, if you assert that justice
should be the goal of politics, then define what you mean by “justice”. Finally, who do you think should make
political decisions for a society: one
person (if so, who?), the few (if so, who?), the many (if so, who?), or
all? Explain your answers.
