As mentioned in this week’s overview, Native Americans have been struggling with voting in recent years. A lot of attention has been paid to the voter identification laws that have been passed in many states and how the poor, minorities, the elderly and other populations have been kept from voting, but the Native American suppression has been under-noticed by the news media.
The American Bar Association (ABA) has been paying attention to voter suppression all over the United States and has taken a particular notice at the suppression of the Native American population. In fact, an article has been written about this very issue.
