As students in your final year of the BScN program, you have grown a great deal through your previous courses and clinical experiences. You should now be preparing to consolidate your knowledge and shape your practice for the independence, autonomy, and responsibility you will have as a graduate nurse in the near future. The purpose of this assignment is to use the NCLEX-RN Test Plan as a lens through which you will view your current practice. Consider opportunities you have had to apply and gain an understanding of the knowledge and expectations for your practice.
Consider the content and distribution as outlined in the test plan. For example, discuss how you have learned and applied knowledge related to the umbrella categories of ‘Safe and Effective Care Environment’, ‘Health Promotion and Maintenance’, ‘Psychosocial Integrity’, ‘Physiological Integrity’ and their sub-categories. Of greatest relevance for this assignment will be Section II (pages 8-41 of the Detailed Test Plan).
Use this paper as an opportunity to become familiar with how the content on this examination relates to your clinical learning experiences, and to become familiar with using the language of the nursing examination to discuss your clinical practice.
In addition to identifying where you have and have not had strong exposure in the sub-categories of the test plan, plan for how you will be strategic and self-directed in your pursuit of additional learning opportunities to continue to build the bridge to your nursing practice. Plan very specifically for how you will grow as an individual, and how you will support your peers in achieving similar goals. Identify the specific resources you will use to gain knowledge in the areas you have not had as much exposure to in your clinical experiences (you may present this information in each section of your paper, or as an independent section).
