In Korsgaard’s essay, “What’s Wrong with Lying?”, she focuses on Kantian autonomy to ground our right to vote. Korsgaard writes:
The Kantian view is deeply democratic, as I said earlier, in the sense that it implies that every rational being has a right to cast a vote about any end to which her own actions are to contribute (p. 17).
On this view, the right to make our own decisions, and vote, is not based on any qualifications to decide wisely in a given situation. Nor is it based on anticipated beneficial consequences. Rather, Korsgaard argues that autonomy is “a right you hold on moral grounds because you are the person whose life it is” (p. 11).
