For your next assignment, I would like you to create a three to five page essay on the subject of the examined or purposeful life. Life comes without instructions and it’s up to each of up to see if we are assembling the parts correctly, if we are winning or losing the game, etc. Unfortunately for most of us, we seldom check to see if we are on track. If we do, what criteria do we use? What kind of a yardstick do we use to measure our success? More importantly, whose yardstick is it and where did it come from?

You can get you inspiration from multiple sources including the attachments. Bill Clinton told David Letterman that wrestling with the “complex issue of identity” prevents us from creating win-win scenarios in our interactions with others and that leads to conflict. President Obama told the nation’s school children that we all have a responsibility to ourselves and to others to embrace education in spite of any obstacles we may encounter. What are our responsibilities? How do we create a new identity for ourselves in an increasingly complex and interconnected world that allows for win-win interactions with others?
Please, think first. Jot down notes. Prioritize your list. Proofread. Otherwise, your essay could easily be rambling and incoherent. You should have an engaging beginning and a strong ending. How many points will you make? How will you order them? This is a profound subject. Your goal should be to have a profound effect on your audience.
