There is no question that the future
will be powered in large part by minerals like cobalt, lithium,
silicon, and more that help to run our energy infrastructure, drive electric cars, and power our electronic
devices. These minerals are not only necessary to ensure technological and societal
progress, but also to mitigate the worst effects of climate change by enabling a shift to carbon-free fuel
sources (e.g., wind, solar, nuclear energy).
What has Japan done as a player in this space? Was it successful? What is the regulations or policy environment. Any unintended consequences i.e. domestic fallout, trade imbalance, environmental concerns, etc?
