The focus of this assignment is to look at current social issues/policies, and to examine how it affects people in their daily lives. The connection is often where social workers work directly with clients/communities. Among the many current social issues are the following: Health related issues (COVID-19 & related matters), economy, poverty, education, immigration, employment matters, criminal justice issues, etc. Select one of these issues and discuss the details listed in the items #1 through #4, as listed below.
Briefly summarize the selected social issue(s), its global impacts in society, and the related policies it has generated.
Describe how the issue has affected individuals, groups/ families, communities;
Describe how a social worker might address the selected issue). Remember to think of all levels of social work practice, not only the direct services role of the social worker;
Explain how two of the six core values in Social Work Code of Ethics are relevant to this social issue.
To support your writing in this assignment, you must reference to at least two other sources used in this course, such as your text books, and articles from professional Journals. In addition to legitimate materials from written newspaper, select articles from professional news resources such as newspapers (New York Times), news magazines (Times, The week, The Economist, or any other quality news-paper); and TV Media & Online sources like Newsweek, CNN, MSNBC, Associated Press, Huffington Post, etc. Wikipedia, and others like it, do not count as a legitimate/professional sources.
Your paper should be about 3 pages long of content, in addition to a “front page” and a “References page”.
Please use double-spaces and number the paper’s pages. Make sure that in the front page of the paper you include your name, the assignment name, and the course.
Remember the organization of your paper is very important. Your paper should begin with an introduction statement that maps out what your paper will explore. You may give some background information on the selected matter/social issue.
The body of the paper consist of paragraphs. Each of the segments of the assignment (items #1 through #4) should have/include the main idea of the paragraphs, and supporting statements with details that relate to the issue(s) you selected to discuss and support them with information from the article(s) and TV programs, and any other reading materials you have chosen to use. You do not need to agree with everything you read/or heard. (Remember, you could be critical, but you do not need to explain why you agree or disagree – these sources already researched their positions). When you use an idea, or a quotation from your sources, do not forget to cite/credit the source(s) you used. Any author mentioned in the body of the paper (including your text books) must be included on the “References” page. All citations and References must follow the APA style. Remember to end your paper with a conclusion paragraph that should highlight the main points discussed in the paper. Start the conclusion paragraph by summarizing the paper’s main ideas and flow telling why the subject is important and what might it be an area for further exploration. Each paragraph should have a concluding sentence.
