for cybercriminals to access an organization’s essential data. With the rise of microservices and
competitiveness in the market to build applications more quickly, APIs are the
building blocks for decoupled applications to connect services and data
frequently. With Cloud computing taking a prominent role in an organization’s
infrastructure cost management, it is critical to consider API security. This
paper discusses the essential properties of APIs, especially the importance of
RESTful framework, how an attacker might compromise a service by exploiting
vulnerabilities in its REST API, and possible security measures that could help
organizations mitigate attack vectors.
