Report of Meituan’s Antitrust Lawsuit

Our first major assignment is an Executive Summary, a report summarizing your research into a given issue. In this case, the issue is a current area of conflict between two or more parties, one of which must be a commercial/financial entity (broadly defined to include non-profit institutions, organizations, etc.). “Current area of conflict” means a conflict that is unresolved or one that has recently been resolved, but the outcome of the resolution is still uncertain. Some examples of possible topics are given in the prompt for the Executive Summary Proposal.

You are an employee at a consulting firm (you can choose the name, or just use the generic name XYZ Consulting), writing a report on this conflict for the head of the company. (Note that the audience here is the company head, not one side of the conflict or the other.) You will research and summarize the following information:

The history/background of the conflict: the roots (very briefly) of the conflict, the major events on the timeline
The major parties to the conflict and their interests, as best as you can determine these.
The parties’ positions in the conflict—what they each are asking for—as well as any other proposed solutions that have been suggested prior to now (for instance, by a mediator, analyst, commentator, etc.). If this is a conflict that has recently been resolved (for instance with legislation, a court settlement, or a policy change), this section will focus on the resolution that has been reached, as well as other solutions that were considered.
Your recommendation for an approach that has the most hope of resolving the conflict. This could be one of the proposed solutions previously mentioned, or a new solution. If the conflict has recently been resolved, this section will predict whether this resolution is likely to be successful, why or why not, and (if applicable) what other resolutions might have been better.
