For this assignment, you will be creating an observational codebook for a premarital counseling session for engaged couples meeting with a member of the clergy. This will be a naturalistic observation from behind a two-way mirror, so participants do not know they are being observed. Make sure that the variables you choose are the only things that you could know without speaking to the participants. You will be able to use the observation exemplar as a reference, but do NOT replicate their categories. Your job with the observed variables is to predict success in marriage for these engaged couples. You will need to:
include instructions for observers
identify the participants’ demographic characteristics
identify the variables of interest (5 of them),
operationally define each of the variables
provide examples of each behavior
create the coding sheet to record your observations
