What resources should be available for all employees including managers?

For this week’s discussion, I want to turn our attention to an Executive Order (EO) that President Biden signed on his first day: “Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation”. This EO focuses on ensuring that employers do not discriminate on the basis of gender or sexual orientation. I would like for each of you research this EO and from an employers’ perspective, discuss the responsibilities that management has to ensure that everyone has a fair opportunity to work and earn a living. What training programs should be in place? What resources should be available for all employees including managers? What role does HR play? Think about discrimination laws and why they were created. I recall reading an article where a teacher worked for a catholic school and agreed to uphold the teaching and beliefs of working in a catholic environment, but it was later discovered the teacher was involved in a same sex relationship, which violated the schools code of conduct and this person was terminated immediately. This case made national news, and she filed suit.
Note: We often talk about diversity, which typically focuses on race; however, diversity goes far beyond race. Regardless of political associations or personal religious beliefs, I want this to be a discussion that focuses on the business aspect of this topic. Please do not post hurtful or insensitive remarks. Such comments will be forwarded if necessary. We all have our own beliefs. In the world of HR, we are required to be the gatekeepers for the organization. Whether you establish your own business or work for a fortune 50 company in HR, regardless of the industry, diversity will be on the radar for many years to come.
