words)Each student is to write a critique essay paper on aspects of
imperialism, based on the class discussions and other sources.The aim of
this term paper is to enable you to think critically and objectively
analyze how historical events shaped the course of world history. The
title of the term paper is “A Critique of Colonialism and Imperialism in
the 20th century” Your paper MUST include valid quotations and/or
references from the readings to back up your points.
As parts of an integrated essay, your paper must also identify:
1) The meaning of a) colonialism and b) imperialism and how both concepts relate and/or differ.
2)
The nature, motives and characteristics of imperialism and the scramble
for colonies. To this end,ask yourself: was it really development and
humanitarian or pseudo-slavery and exploitation in disguise that
motivated the scramble for colonies?
3) At least one region impacted
by imperialism. This might be Africa, the Americas or Asia.4) Aspects of
imperialism that stood out in the readings and materials. This could be
positive or negative.
5) Global impacts and consequences of imperialism and colonialism.
The
paper must have a proper introduction and concluding paragraph. A
bibliography, adopting the Chicago Manual of Style, should also be
provided. At least THREE sources should be used in the preparation of
