Overall Format: APA format, 4-6 pages, Times New Roman 12pt font. 1 in margins. Please
include works cited page.

Part I: Diagnosis
Please indicate the DSM-5 diagnosis that you would assign to the main character in the book.
Give your rationale for the diagnosis including examples of the specific criteria from DSM-5 and
that we discussed in class. Include examples to back up your rationale from the text and cite
using APA citation.

Part II: Differential Diagnosis
Describe any other disorders that might be applicable to your book and describe why you did
not choose that disorder as the diagnosis for the main character.

Part III: Cultural/ Religious/ Family of Origin/ Childhood Experiences
How does your character’s culture, ethnicity, religion, family of origin, or childhood experiences
factor into their experience? Do any events in their lives stand out as critical in the presentation
of their disorder? Is their family supportive of their decision to get treatment? How do others
in their lives and in their social groups view them in light of their treatment and disorder? Do
they experience systemic discrimination? Do they have privilege based on their cultural, ethnic,
sexual orientation, religious, or socio-economic status?

Part IV: Personal Reflection
What stood out to you about the character’s experience when suffering from the disorder with
which they were diagnosed? What stood out to you about the process of their diagnosis? Their
interactions with mental health professionals? Did the character experience stigma or
discrimination from others based on their diagnosis? How do you feel you would like to
respond to stigma in the field?
