Through readings and videos, you have been introduced to many historical figures in psychology. These key figures introduced some of the major schools of thought and philosophies of psychology. In this Summative Assessment, you will conduct a review of historical figures and the schools of thought or philosophies they represent.
Conduct a review of 5 key figures you deem most important in the history of psychology. I suggest you look at Week 1’s readings, your old psychology textbooks, or this article: Most influential living psychologists
Here’s a quick list that I gave another class:
Freud, Jung, Adler, Erikson, Piaget (Psychodynamic)
Bandura, Pavlov, Skinner (Behaviorists)
Carl Rogers, Maslow (Humanistic)
William James (First great American psychologist — one of my favorites)
Leon Feistinger
Martin Seligman (started positive psychology)
Aaron Beck (Cognitive)
Mihály Csikszentmihályi (Flow)
Howard Gardner (multiple intelligences)
Carol Gilligan (Feminist)
Elizabeth Loftus (false memory)
And more!
Assess the schools of thought and/or psychological philosophy that each of your 5 chosen historical figures profess.
Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper including the following:
Summarize each of the key historical figures and the role they played in the development of psychology.
Summarize the school of thought or philosophy developed by each of your five key historical figures.
Select 2 to 3 of your reviewed schools of thoughts/philosophies of psychology that have most impacted the field of psychology today and explain why you believe they have had the most impact on the field.
Cite and reference a minimum of 2 scholarly (credible) articles in the field supporting your position in APA format. These are articles from the classroom, the library, GOV research articles, or other that you get pre-approved.
Submit your assignment.
