This assignment continues your focus on using effective professional communication skills and provides you with an opportunity to examine innovative technological tools to assist in addressing the problem or issue on which you have been focusing since the beginning of the course.
In this issue paper, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following BHS program outcomes:
PO4: Identify opportunities and challenges in the use of current and evolving information technologies for planning, implementing and evaluating health services.
PO5: Use effective professional communication skills to engage with various stakeholders.
PO7: Implement specialized knowledge and skills in the management and delivery of health services.
Writing an issue paper requires that you focus on the art of persuasion, rather than strictly information dissemination. Persuasive writing is a very common method used by health professionals to communicate innovations and evidence-based best practices with policy makers, prospective funders, and colleagues.
As you will have learned in your time in the BHS program, technological solutions can be extremely advanced such as robotics, avatars and virtual presence, and complex information management systems. They can also be as simple as use of a web camera, smart device, wearable clothing, patient portal, tele-health, and much more.
For this project, you will write an issue paper to present to your supervisor. The focus will be on technological strategies that can assist in addressing the target problem you have focused on this term.
Make your issue paper of sufficient quality that he or she could present this to an organizational executive team. In this paper, please address the following:
Introduce the issue or problem you are addressing. Do so in a way that will capture the readers’ interest and empathy. (Remember, this issue is based on the case scenario and the problem you have been charged with addressing.)
Provide a brief statement of background that includes the following:
What groups (stakeholders) are most impacted by the problem.
Your recommendation for one technological strategy that will assist in addressing your target problem.
Provide the evidence.
A careful evidence-based justification on why and how your proposed strategy will make a difference. (Be sure to include at least two compelling evidence-based reasons why this strategy should lead to improvement.)
Refute opposing arguments.
State at least one conflicting position (e.g. a reason some stakeholder might believe your recommendation would not work).
Refute this position using evidence from the case scenario, the portfolio, and other literature as needed. Show that you understand multiple aspects and viewpoints on this issue.
Identify opportunities and challenges to using this technological strategy to advance your proposed solution.
Support your recommendation and rationale with 2-3 credible sources, as well as your case scenario. Your sources should be from the portfolio you finalized in Module 4 where possible. As needed, you may explore outside credible sources.
Your issue paper must be 3-5 double-spaced pages, apply credible sources to support your recommendation, and be APA formatted. Your writing should be formal and appropriate for presentation to a supervisor and potentially an executive team. You are welcome to also include graphics, images, or tables to illustrate your points and increase the persuasive power.
