African American Social Thought in Black Panther
How does the film present and use integrationist, nationalist, transformationist or Black feminist concept? Pick one of our concepts and apply them. Then, use examples from the film. Depending on the concept you select, you may need to draw from past material. Demonstrate a cogent understanding of your concept in writing; pinpoint specific scenes, moments, plot elements, or characters that represent one of our concepts; and explain how they represent one of our concepts.
To write up this part, you will want to think through, and write about, how the authors we’ve read might judge the movie. E.g. What would Marcus Garvey think about T’Challa? What might Stokely Carmichael or Thurgood Marshall or James Farmer or Malcolm X have to say about N’Jobu’s work in Oakland or Princess Nakia’s work in Wakanda and elsewhere? What would our writers make, and what do you make, of the very end of the film, when T’Challa addresses the UN? (To be clear—these are sample questions/ideas – you do not need to write about these characters/issues specifically.)
Resistance in Black Panther
How does the film represent the practices of resistance that are central to African American experience, according to Marable and Mullings?
