Prompt
With a thesis statement, remember that you are making a claim. Rather than a statement of fact, your thesis is a position against which someone could form a counter argument. The thesis also serves to map out your argument, giving the reader an expectation of the sequence of the paper as you support your claim with evidence.
In the conclusion to your Research Synthesis, you should have made a first attempt at a thesis statement. Now, as you have researched further and begun to write your draft, your thesis should be more advanced in its development and concrete in its argument. This forum is so you can get advice on your thesis statement as you’re writing your rough draft. Often, as you write, you discover ideas (rather than having everything in mind when you start to draft), so your thesis will continue to evolve.
This forum, as outlined below, offers us a way to share ideas and to think through different ways of framing thesis statements.
